About This Course

This course is organized to meet the need to communicate in Korean at the basic level in a work (business) environment. Through this course, students are equipped with basic expressions used in the context of communicating in the work environment. This course emphasizes listening and reading skills.

Throughout this course, students will gain proficiency in essential expressions necessary for effective communication in professional environments. The emphasis lies on developing listening and reading skills. Specifically, students will be taught how to read and write in Hangeul, the Korean alphabet. Additionally, they will learn useful greetings and how to introduce themselves in Korean.

The course covers Korean numbering systems, including native and Sino-Korean numbers. Moreover, students will delve into Korean office culture, covering topics such as business calls, meetings, and report writing. The teaching approach integrates interactive lectures, cooperative learning activities, and online resources to facilitate effective learning.

The assessment strategies in this course encompass a comprehensive range of approaches to evaluate learners' language proficiency and cultural comprehension within business settings. These strategies include quizzes and exercises to assess vocabulary and grammar, listening and reading exercises, and self-assessment. These strategies collectively provide a thorough evaluation of learners' language abilities and their capacity to navigate Korean-speaking business environments effectively.

At the end of the course, students will be able to acquire foundational language skills and cultural insights necessary for effective communication in business contexts with a focus on the Korean language. This includes being able to comprehend and use basic business-related vocabulary and phrases, engage in simple conversations, understand common written communication, and demonstrate awareness of cultural norms and etiquette relevant to conducting business in Korean-speaking environments.
