Staying Curious Online: Towards Critical Digital Citizens

About This Course

This 6-week MOOC aims to improve the participant’s critical thinking skills when consuming and producing new media texts, which include social media posts, podcasts, news articles on websites, and videos. Participants will gain knowledge about the characteristics and mechanisms of new media, and how it operates in producing and circulating information, as well as the strategies to navigate new media content.

  3. Consuming: Analyzing new media
  4. Consuming: Looking deeper
  5. Prosuming: Participation in new media
  6. Prosuming: Creating critical new media content

Learning Mode

The course is self-paced and is conducted asynchronously. This means learners are responsible for doing the learning activities independently at their own pace during a learning period.

Learning Activities

The course uses interactive videos, quizzes, independent assignments, reflective assignments, and discussions. 

Assessment

Learners are responsible for doing all learning and assessment activities to pass this MOOC and receive the certificate. Learners are assessed using these components: 

  • Discussion participation: 30% 
  • Lesson quizzes: 30% 
  • Final test: 40% 

    The minimum passing grade to obtain a certificate is 70%

Language of Instruction

The course will be delivered in English and the interactive videos will provide Indonesian subtitles.
