Intended Audience

Participants / audiences are parents,caregivers,social workers,or members of the general community who have a desire to learn about child development and are concerned about children's growth and mental health

Participants are expected to have completed high school education or its equivalent,understand English well,and be computer literate.

Course Description

This MOOC aims to provide understanding to parents, caregivers, and general community members about early childhood development and how to enhance their child's development.

Participants will gain foundational knowledge about typical development in physical, cognitive, emotional, and social domains, look at various factors that influence the development, and recognize challenges across different developmental domains. Participants will learn strategies to proactively manage developmental challenges and problems before it escalates, as well as practical parenting tips to foster children's development and facilitate them to integrate successfully into a broader social environment.

This 8-week MOOC is a self-paced course; each week is comprised of video lessons and exercises. It will take participants to understand typical development in physical, cognitive, emotional, and social domains; and implement strategies to enhance children's optimal growth.

This course will be conducted in English, with Indonesian subtitles; aiming to reach a broader audience, both within Indonesia and participants from foreign countries.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this MOOC, participants will be able to:

Learning Activities

This MOOCwill employ the R2D2 Model developed by Bonk and Zhang (2006) as suggested in MOOC development guidelines. The learning activities include:

  1. Reading: participants are requested to read brief materials (developed by the instructor) related to the discussed topics.
  2. Display: Participants are provided with the opportunity to watch interactive videos developed by the instructors.
  3. Do: Participants are given the opportunity to apply what they have learned (e.g., conducting physical development observations).

Assessment Strategies

This MOOC will use assignments/exercises, and quizzes as methods of assessment for learning.

Language of Instruction

This course is delivered in English with Indonesian subtitles, aiming to be accessible not only to parents in Indonesia but also to attract parents who understand English from various parts of the world.
